I actually didn’t pick up a digital camera until I was 20 something. And the only reason I did, over 15 years ago, was because I needed one to photograph the stories I was writing, for a small newspaper I was working at in South Bend. Before jumping into photography full time, I was in the news industry … for 13 years! I graduated from Indiana University back in 2005, with a Mass Communications degree, and thought I’d be working as an investigative journalist … but as you might already know … newspapers were on their way out at that time. But … I was eager to still try to get my foot in the door! I began my work as a freelance writer at the South Bend Tribune, along with a smaller publication in Granger, Indiana, which is where I picked up my first digital camera. And when my sister asked me to photograph our very first wedding, after placing a Craigslist ad, I rented my very first DSLR and we ventured to a little chapel in Michigan, where we fell in love with documenting love … 10+ years later, I can’t believe that this is what we get to do as a “job” … that doesn’t really feel like a job at all. Super thankful for all these years of learning, growing, and meeting the most amazing people along this journey …

When I’m not behind the camera, my son and I are usually playing football, baseball, basketball, ping-pong … you name it! He’s a sports kid and his passion for whatever he’s playing inspires me so much! He is my greatest inspiration. And just a few things I love … Watching sunsets with my husband, walks with my dog Marshall, reading multiple books at a time, writing - and reading poetry - solo adventures, and all things 80s! If you’d like to check out some of my writing, along with adventures with my family, you can head over to my personal Instagram!

I have always been into photography! I took classes in high school and went on to study photography and graphic design at Columbia College in Chicago. I had to no idea what I was going to do with photography and wanted to try my hand documenting a wedding. I put an ad on Craigslist to shoot a free wedding and someone actually took the offer! I pleaded with my sister to come along with me. She rented a camera and we headed to Michigan for our first ever wedding. The rest is history. From that sweet little Michigan wedding we have had the pleasure to work with so many amazing couples over these past 10+ years! I would of never expected all those years ago that I would be in a career I am absolutely in love with! My partner Caroline and I recently branched off and started a new company together, Love & The Lake Photography! You can find all of our new adventures on our new website, here: https://www.loveandthelake.com/.

When I am not shooting, you can find Cash and I roaming the shores of Lake Michigan, going on road trips, or hiking trails throughout the country.

If you would like to follow Cash & I’s adventures, head over to my personal instagram!

Cash (In loving memory …)

Former photo assistant, and joy bringer extraordinaire … this little love was Erin’s right hand gal, and she recently passed over the rainbow bridge … but all who met her, loved her, and we are grateful she was a part of our lives …
